Here are some 50s silhouettes for day and night:
This shirtwaist dress is STUNNING in person. I didn't really go all out to merchandise these items for the sneak peaks, so the dress isn't steamed or ironed, but I think the effect can still be felt. The fitted bodice and full skirt SCREAM 1950s day dress.
With a graduated pearl three-strand choker and perhaps a matching bracelet and earring set, this look would be a knock-out.
Edit: I found this 1962 Coca-Cola ad with a woman wearing a similar silhouette. It's either a shirtwaist dress with a full skirt or an separates with a full skirt.
This jewel-toned, fit and flare evening dress is beautiful! Emerald, sapphire, and onyx vertical stripes... And the fabric has a really rich sheen. The pleated full skirt balloons out if you spin in it. I get my dress forms in a few days so I'll repost it then.
The next two sneak peaks will feature amazing jewel-toned shift dresses... and after that, several day/play dresses and shirtwaist dresses.
Honestly, these photos don't do the pieces justice, but I'm shooting with a model on Sunday, so I'll be able to post the pictures of some of the smaller garments to their best advantage then.

Have to say I love your blog. I had been looking for vintage African American images since I began paper crafting ... and other than raiding my Mom's old patterns - I was stuck. Keep up the good work - I love it.
