From these and the previous two vintage 7-Up ads I featured, I can garner that a large part of 7-Up's marketing scheme was the idea that people wanted to be coupled up, wanted to attract members of the opposite sex, and that 7-Up could help them do that.
Not much has changed in marketing over the past 40+ years.
